New Volunteer Opportunity Available

– Volunteer Coordinator

PLEASE NOTE: This is an unpaid voluntary role.

Hours: 2 – 5 hours per week, flexible, volunteering can be done from home as well as at the centre.
Axminster Heritage Centre is currently looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to assist the manager in supporting our front desk volunteers to get the most out of their roles.

Could this be you?

Here at the Axminster Heritage Centre, we recognise that volunteering is just as much about what we provide for our volunteers as what they do for us. As a charity which receives no government funding (we rely on our visitors, members and occasional grants), we are so grateful to our dedicated team of volunteers who enable us to continue to preserve and share the wonderfully rich and fascinating history of Axminster and its surrounding villages. These volunteers tirelessly cover our front desk (including Axminster Information Point), providing our visitors with a warm, friendly and knowledgeable welcome. They also give their time behind the scenes helping with marketing, fundraising, IT, membership and collections.
Axminster Heritage is an accredited independent museum and registered charity (charity no: 1113818), located in the heart of the conservation area in Axminster’s Silver Street, between The Whitty Bar and WBW Solicitors.
This role is ideal for individuals looking to increase their social interactions, or who are interested in volunteering to gain experience and opportunities to develop their organisational, communication, and leadership skills in a museum environment. Whatever your reason for volunteering, you will be at the heart of Axminster Heritage Centre’s volunteer programme, connecting with passionate individuals and contributing to the success of our mission.
As Volunteer Coordinator, you will play a vital role in engaging and supporting our volunteers, ensuring their experience is rewarding and impactful.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Manage volunteer schedules and tasks
  • Ensure a positive and inclusive volunteer experience for all
  • Recruit, train and support volunteers
  • Organise regular volunteer coffee mornings and social activities
  • Producing regular updates and keeping volunteers informed and engaged.
This is a flexible hybrid volunteering role which can be completed from home alongside time spent in the heritage centre. No experience is necessary for this role, but confidence with basic IT such as Word and sending emails would be beneficial.
For further information, or to come in for an informal chat about this role, please email the manager, Nigel Sadler, at: manager@axminsterheritage.org or telephone us (during opening hours) on: 01297 639884.
