The Cherry Fayre dates back over 800 years to 1210 when the then Lord of the Manor, Lord William Brewer, received a Royal Grant to hold an annual fayre over 8 days in honour of the Feast of St John the Baptist. This ancient midsummer celebration brought great prestige and valuable trade to the town with merchants, traders and dealers of all kinds prizing the cherries that formed a major part of the fare on offer. Cindy Furse will be talking about how The Cherry Fayre was resurrected in 2017 and how it will be bigger than ever this year.
