Join us for a talk by Chard Museum Archivist, Sue Heward and hear how the decision in 1825 not to build a ship canal from Beer to Bridgwater (via Axminster and Chard) led to the people of Chard building a 13.5 mile tub boat canal to connect their town to the newly-opened Bridgwater to Taunton Canal.

Ron Frampton Memorial Lecture

Brian Frampton will be talking about the life of his brother Ron, a local photographer and enviromentalist, in out first annual memorial lecture.

We will also give an update on the Ron Frampton Archive.
Tea Light Holders Craft Workshop

Join us for this craft workshop with Ros Hammond who will be making decorative tea
light holders which can easily be made from plain drinking glasses or jam jars.
By decorating your glass or jam jar with silk straw paper, which becomes translucent
once it has been applied to the glass, you are then able to decorate them further
once dry. This is a simple activity tearing and sticking paper and makes striking a
Christmas decoration or small gift.

Crochet for Beginners Craft Workshop

Join us for an introduction to the basics of crochet with Cheryl Gardner, including
how to create a crochet chain and circle, basic stitches, their abbreviations and how
to read a simple crochet pattern.
All attendees will receive a crochet hook, pattern and enough yarn to finish a small
project.

Macrame Craft Workshop

Learn the basics of the macrame knots and how to create a Christmas decoration for
you to take home. Macrame has a long history and is great for beginners as you
don’t need to purchase lots of equipment to get going.
Once the basic techniques are mastered the possibilities for creating are endless
from jewellery to wall hangings.
In this class you will be able to borrow a clipboard to work on and you will receive
enough yarn to complete the project.

Silk & Sequin Fabric Birds Craft Workshop
Saturday 14th December 2024, 10:30am – 12:30pm

In this seasonal workshop we will be making Christmas tree decorations from shiny silky fabric scraps and giving them real feather tails. These decorative birds can be made with very easy sewing techniques, then stuffed and further embellished with sequins and beads to catch the twinkling Christmas lights.
Tickets cost £7.50 per person and can be purchased from Axminster Heritage Centre during opening hours.
