We will be making a significant proportion of our photographic and image holdings accessible on-line. The earliest photographs date from the 1870s, but most are from the 20th century.
Throughout the history of Axminster’s museum services, individuals and groups have donated small collections of negatives and photographic prints. These pictures, taken over the past more than one hundred years, literally give ‘snap shots’ of life in Axminster and some surrounding villages. They help to tell the story of the town’s development.
If you have any interesting old photographs of Axminster or the surrounding area, or of local people and you would be prepared to let Axminster Heritage Centre see a copy (which we can scan from your original), please send us an email or come in and speak to us. We are particularly keen to increase our collection of photographs which show people in action doing things (e.g. ploughing a field).
