Axminster Historical Society (AHS) was founded in 1989 to act as a focus for the study and exploration of local history. It organises talks on a variety of historical subjects of relevance to the local area for its members and guests. These are held in The Bradshaw Meeting Room at The Axminster Heritage Centre. Details of the current programme can be seen at ‘Whats On’ Link

Although it operates independently from Axminster Heritage, the two organisations are closely associated. They share a common goal of researching aspects of local history, particularly those relating to Axminster and the surrounding areas. They also both aim to promote and encourage the widest understanding of, and enthusiasm for, the local heritage.

Membership of AHS is open to anyone with an interest in history.  Annual membership is currently just £10, which covers admission to eight talks held on the first Wednesday of each month October to May.
