It has now been a week since we announced the closure of Axminster Heritage Centre. A lot has happened and we are now looking for ways to keep entertained during the enforced social distancing which means many of us are now staying at home. We at Axminster Heritage are looking at ways to keep you entertained with snippets of local history. We have already started our Second World War reminiscence and activities on our Facebook page as we approach the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
We would also like to hear from you what you would like to see on our Facebook page. Is there something about Axminster’s history you would like to know more about? Could you create a local history quiz for our members or visitors to our Facebook page etc? Do you have old photographs of Axminster you want to share or have help in identifying a place, building or people in the photograph?
What seems to have been overlooked is that this is also the International Year of The Nurse and Midwife. At this time when our National Health Service is working so hard to battle a pandemic we want to take a look back at nursing in Axminster as well. Were you a nurse that served the Axminster Community? Can you recall any stories about local nurses or midwifes? We would like to collect your stories and images to add to our archives. If we get enough stories and images we are thinking about making them into a short publication in our publication series.
